Three killed in Sirajganj road crash

Three people were burnt to death as two separate vehicles caught fire in a road accident in Konabari area of Sirajganj last night.
The identities of the dead could not be known immediately as they were burnt beyond recognition.
Superintendent of Police SM Amran Hossain said a head-on collision occurred between a Dhaka-bound vegetable-laden truck from Bogra and another carrying poultry feed on the west side connecting road of Bangabandhu bridge.
Soon a microbus and a private car rammed into the wreckage of the trucks amid poor visibility caused by dense fog, said the SP.
Then the jumble of vehicles was hit by another truck leading to a blast of the cylinder of the microbus and severe fire in both the car and the microbus, he said.
Two people of the microbus and one in the car died on the spot while the condition of another one was critical. Three other people were also injured and admitted to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital, said the police official.
An official of Sirajganj fire brigade, Moqbul Hossain, told The Daily Star that two units of the fire brigade rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
Later, they recovered the burnt bodies, he said, adding that huge traffic congestion was created following the accident.
