The end of a legend

Thanks to Syed Badrul Ahsan for penning an excellent obituary on Khushwant Singh (TDS, 21st March). We have been immensely saddened by the news of Khushwant Singh's death.
Khushwant Singh was an entertainer par excellence. He was a prolific writer, innovative editor and a person with strong discipline. He would often be involved in interesting controversies and would always remain in the limelight. One can not forget all the characters of his books – KL Gauba, Balwant Singh Gargi, Yasmin Wacho, Amrita Shergill, Sadia Dehlavi, etc. He wrote prose in simple English and avoided difficult language which made him more adorable to the readers. Khushwant Singh will be remembered for his heart-touching, enjoyable writing.
