Google Meet
For certain Google Workspace editions, you can now video call in 1080p resolution.

Google Meet now allows users to set the video resolution to 1080p for select Google Workspace editions, as per an official announcement by Google.

According to Google's Workspace Updates blog post, this full HD resolution is available on the web when using a computer with a 1080p camera. You will also need enough performance capability on both the participants' computers to properly run the full HD online meeting.

For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel.

This new feature is turned off by default. To turn it on, simply click on the three dots on the top-right section of a video call, which will prompt you to let people see you in full HD. Click 'turn on 1080p' from there.

Eligible users will be promoted to begin new meetings in 1080p, but they can also choose to turn it off in the settings. Additional bandwidth is required to be able to send 1080p video. If the bandwidth isn't sufficient, Google Meet will automatically adjust the resolution.

Google states that the feature has begun rolling out on April 23, with scheduled release domains receiving the update from May 4.

1080p video calling will be available to Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, and a few other editions. It will not be available to users with Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Education Fundamentals, or those with personal Google Accounts. For a full list of compatibility, check out the official announcement.
