DNCC to launch ‘digital smart parking’ in Dhaka
M Atiqul Islam, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor, recently announced that DNCC will be launching a 'smart car parking system' starting in September.
The announcement was made during the 'Smart Hat, Smart Bangladesh' event held on August 3 at Nagar Bhaban, Gulshan-2.
According to Atiqul Islam, smart parking is being launched as a pilot project for 500 cars from September 2022. It will be introduced in Gulshan and Banani at first, with plans to be executed for other areas in Dhaka as well if the project is deemed successful.
Regarding how the smart parking would work, Atiqul stated that the vehicles will be parked using an automated IoT system, with commuters able to rent dedicated parking spaces for an allocated period of time.
Charges will be applied based on how long the car has been leased in that assigned parking area.
