CEO of one of the 'best workplaces of 2020' fires 900 employees over a Zoom call

What seemed like a regular workday turned out to be the final day of employment for 900 employees of the US-based digital mortgage lender company, Better.com.
At a Zoom meeting, Vish Garg, CEO of Better.com, fired 900 of his employees at once without any prior indication or warning.
"If you are on this call, you are part of the unlucky group being laid off. Your employment here is terminated, effective immediately," spoke the CEO as 900 workers lost their jobs during the holiday season.
"The market has changed, as you know, and we have to move with it, in order to survive," was his only line of reasoning, and as of current reports, it is still unsure what led the CEO to suddenly let go of about 15% of his company's staff.
The fired US employees will receive, according to Garg, four weeks of severance, one month of full benefits and two months of coverage for which the company will pay the premium price.
Better.com currently stands at about $6 billion net value, and global portals such as Inc. Magazine ranked it as one of the best workplaces of 2020.
Workers at Better.com reported that after the mass firing, Garg began another Zoom call with the remaining employees, telling them that the firing was for the better and that the 900 fired employees were hampering the company's workflow.
Garg has amassed a certain level of infamy among his staff before this incident. Reports suggest he wrote anonymous blog posts accusing former employees of theft and unlawful conduct. He also once sent an abusive email to his staff, calling them "dumb dolphins" and "too damn slow".
