Teachers of Jahangirnagar University continued to confine two pro-vice chancellors and the registrar to their offices since Wednesday, demanding execution of the chancellor's directives to organise the VC panel election to replace Prof Anwar Hossain.
The protesters under the banner of "Shikkhak-Shikkharthi-Karmokarta-Karmochari Oikya Forum" said they would carry on the confinement until their demand was met.
On November 6, President Abdul Hamid, also chancellor of JU, asked
all concerned to "immediately arrange the senate election and take steps to nominate a VC panel."
Meanwhile, students brought out a procession on the campus protesting the decision of allowing MPhil and PhD researchers to take part and cast votes in the JU Central Students Union (Jucsu) election scheduled for January 2, saying they were not residential students and thus unfit for participating in the poll.
The authorities, however, say that as the MPhil and PhD candidates are attached to dormitories, they will be considered residential students.
