The High Court yesterday directed the two Dhaka city corporations to take effective steps to prevent the mosquito menace in the capital, and thus control the alarming spread of dengue fever.
The High Court yesterday directed the government to prepare an action plan with a list of land grabbers for recovering 50 canals in both the Dhaka city corporation areas by July 1 next year.
The authorities approve a proposal to double the size of Dhaka city by adding eight more unions to both the north and south city corporations.
If entrusted with the management of city’s storm drainage system, Dhaka city corporations will play a role in resolving the acute urban flooding and water logging problem in the capital city, said Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq.
While many Bangladeshis recognise the environmental menace of littering, a national wake-up campaign, actively championed by the national leadership, would be far more effective than the occasional focus on the issue by the media.
