Sylhet quarry worker killed in Ansar members firing
A worker of a stone quarry was killed in firing by Ansar members in Companiganj upazila in Sylhet on Thursday midnight.
The deceased was identified as Jahur Ahmed,40, son of Faizur Rahman of Biswambharpur of Sunamganj district.
Companiganj thana sub-inspector Rezaul Haq said when Jahur went to thr restricted ropeway area of Bangladesh Railway in Bholaganj for extracting stones, Ansar members shot at him, leaving him injured.
When he was taken to Osmani Medical College Hospital around 4:00am doctors declared him dead.
He said a local gang has long been extracting stones from the restricted area. Later, local administration imposed section 144 in the area on April 22 for an indefinite period, he said.
As some workers went to the area for extracting stones defying the ban, the Ansar members obstructed them. As the workers attacked the Ansar members with stones they opened fire, said the OC.
