Sust students on 2-day strike for sacking of accused teacher
Agitating students enforced a 48-hour strike at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) yesterday demanding termination of a teacher over sexual harassment allegations against him.
Demonstrating students locked the main gate of the university and boycotted all academic activites demanding termination of Assistant Professor Nasir Uddin of public administration department.
The students, under the banner “Jouno Nirjaton Birodhi Shabi Shikkhartibrinda”, have been agitating since Thursday.
Niloy Chandra Das, an assistant proctor, said the university authorities, including Vice Chancellor Prof Md Aminul Haque Bhuiyan, will hold a meeting with the students today.
On March 31, a female student of public administration department lodged a complaint against Nasir Uddin, Abu Saleh, a department employee, and Atiqur Rahman, assistant administrative officer, for sexually harassing her.
Following a probe report submitted by the committee formed to investigate the incident, the university authorities on April 22 relieved Nasir of his duties for one year, dismissed Saleh and demoted Atiqur.
