Student kills himself

A boy hanged himself from a ceiling fan at his home in the capital's Madhya Badda yesterday for failing in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams.
Al Mehedi Shuvo, 18, the son of businessman Rafiqul Islam, was a candidate of science group from Malibagh Dhaka Biggyan College. He took his life around 3:00pm, his uncle Ashraful Islam told reporters at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Meanwhile, at least 17 HSC candidates, mostly female, who attempted to commit suicide by taking poison or drugs for the same reason, were admitted to DMCH as of filing of this report at midnight, said hospital sources.
