Store on wheels taking daily essentials to people near Sundarbans
The government closure of all services except those deemed essential to combat the spread of coronavirus has now been extended till April 11. And owing to the shutdown, life has come to a grinding halt.
People have been asked to stay home to ensure physical distancing. This has also given rise to many positive initiatives from different groups to assist people in following the "stay home" directives.
In Koyra, an upazila very close to Sundarbans in Khulna, upazila administration and Upazila Officers' Club have jointly started a mobile department store stocked with daily essentials.
The mobile store will provide its services from house to house; one just needs to call the hotline number to avail their services, reports our Khulna correspondent quoting Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shimul Kumar Shaha.
The services will be available in seven unions of the upazila and is specially targeted towards those in need.
The prices of the products have been subsidised with one-day salary of government officials in the upazila, the UNO added.
Most of the products have been priced lower than market prices as well. Potatoes will be sold at Tk 12 per kg, onions Tk 25 per kg and pulses will be sold at Tk 60 per kg.
