Stop brutalities in the name of blockade, hartals

Transport workers brought out a protest procession followed by a rally at Satmatha intersection in Bogra town while journalists formed a human chain there yesterday protesting arson attacks and murder during the non-stop countrywide blockade and frequent hartals enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance.

At the rally organised by the regional committee of Rajshahi Road Transport Workers' Federation, speakers said they would not sit idle when the so-called blockaders are torching vehicles and killing innocent people.

They vowed to run vehicles in all the roads and highways from Bogra, defying sabotage and criminal activities.

Abdul Latif Mondal, president of motor transport workers union, Rajshahi division, Shamsuddin Sheikh Helal, Bogra district unit secretary of the union, and Sagor Kumar Roy, secretary of motor owners' group, spoke at the rally, among others.

Journalists of different print and electronic media participated in the human chain organised by Bogra Union of Journalists (BUJ) at Satmatha at 11:30am.

Terming violence and subversive activities as enemy of democracy, they demanded an immediate end to the arson attacks and killings in the name of political movement.

They also condemned attack on journalists during performance of their professional duty.

Among others, Prodip Bhattacharjee Sankar, BFUJ central committee vice-president (Rajshahi), Jahedur Rahman Jadu, president of Bogra Press Club, Mahamudul Aman Nayan, Abdus Salam Babu, and Abul Kalam Azad, secretary,  joint secretary, and ex-president of the press club, journalist Komlesh Mohanta Sanu and drama personality Toufique Hasan Moyna spoke at the programme with BUJ President AHM Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.
