Cancer Awareness Programme for Women celebrates its 3rd anniversary
Musa Karim Ripon, a student of Islamic University in Kushtia, lost his mother and aunt to breast cancer in 2013. Early diagnosis could have saved their lives. However, they were too shy to discuss it, because of the social stigma surrounding breast cancer and cervical cancer in the rural areas.
Steered by these incidents, Ripon, along with his friend Saiful Islam Musa, a student of Government Homeopathic Medical College in Mirpur, founded a non-profit organisation named Cancer Awareness Programme for Women (CAP) in 2015. Together they have been conducting cancer awareness campaigns with the help of cancer specialists, survivors, social workers and volunteers across the country.
On November 14, CAP celebrated their 3rd anniversary at Bishwa Sahitya Kendra. "On this journey of ours, we have tried our best to encourage people to talk about cancer," said Ripon. "We also run cancer screening camps in both rural and urban areas. We are grateful to those who have helped us on this journey and we hope to do more with their support."
