BYLC hosts session on the importance of gender equality
Bangladesh Youth Leadership Centre (BYLC) celebrated International Women's Day this March, at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh with the slogan, "Balance for Better: Shomriddhir Pothe Akshathe." The programme welcomed more than 400 participants with eight distinguished guest speakers to promote the importance of gender equality, address the existing gender discrimination issues in our society and focus on the solutions for the obstacles they create. Shaheen Anam, Executive Director, Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) moderated the first session titled, 'Breaking the Glass Ceiling' along with Anita Ghazi Rahman, Founder and Partner, The Legal Circle, Farin Daulah, Co-founder and Managing Director, Yellow Brick Road, and Adjunct Faculty Member, North South University, and Nazma Ara Begum Poppy, General Secretary, Visually Impaired People's Society (VIPS) and Project Officer, Handicap International.
Ejaj Ahmad, Founder and President of BYLC, moderated the second session of the programme titled, 'Social Mindset and Men's Role in Gender Equality'. Imtiaz Ilahi, Co-founder, BDRunners, and Managing Director, GraphicPeople, and Farzana Kashfi, Development Activist and Former Head of BRAC Skills Development Program, also spoke at the panel. Imtiaz Ilahi talked about the spontaneous participation of both male and female runners of Bangladesh in the marathons of BDRunners and mentioned that gender never plays a role when it came to judging someone's overall stamina. He further added that we need to come out of stereotypical thought processes about evaluating the mental and physical strength of someone based on gender. The programme ended with a poetry recitation and a musical performance by Chitropot. Volunteer for Bangladesh (VBD) and United News Bangladesh (UNB) were the outreach and media partners respectively.
