World Vision Bangladesh and The Daily Star jointly present to you "Hidden Hero" - a video series where we portray real stories of ordinary people with extraordinary impact during this global pandemic.
In the Sixth Episode, we look into the life of Md. Alamgir Kabir, an 18-year old boy who became a member of the National Child Forum (NCF) under Dhaka Shishu AP (DSAP) in 2012. He received multiple pieces of training from World Vision Bangladesh (WVB) upon joining NCF and has attended multiple national and international meetings and seminars related to CP and Child Rights. These activities have shaped up his desire to work for the betterment of Bangladesh's most vulnerable children.
From the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, Alamgir was very active in motivating and raising awareness among children. He started disseminating government approved and WVB prepared Covid-19 awareness messages to other children by using social media and mobile phone. He uploaded many awareness related videos on Child Forum Facebook page. Approximately 3,500 children and adults became aware of Covid-19 through all these initiatives. He went on to host live shows on Facebook where multiple stakeholders like Doctors, Government Officials, Development Workers from UN Organizations, Child leaders from Bangladesh, and other countries actively participated and shared their insights and tips to children, youth, and parents about their respective roles in the Covid-19 pandemic.
Alamgir is very active and works with other NCF members in his area and has been leading the Child Forum activities for the last 2-3 years. With the help of other NCF members, he stopped at least 17 child marriages, worked to eliminate child labor, and stop violence against children. Alamgir and his team have organized numerous child-led skills and capacity building training and orientations for approximately 1,500 NCF members on CP, CR, SDG, C4D, etc. It is captivating to see the amount of positive impact that Alamgir has created in his society in such a young age. To us, he is the true embodiment of a Hidden Hero - an ordinary person who has risen to make an extraordinary contribution, empowered by the proven experience of World Vision.
