SSPG holds classical music conference
Shuddha Sangeet Proshar Goshthi (SSPG) arranged its 46th Annual Classical Music Conference at the Bishwa Sahitya Kendra, Dhaka. The three-day conference, featuring both classical vocal and instrumental music performances, concluded on January 10.
On the opening day, finance secretary of SSPG, Usha Rahman congratulated all the classical musicians of Bangladesh, and thanked everyone who helped SSPG throughout its journey of 50 years.
Dr. Jagodananda Roy started off the opening evening's (January 8) performance with a khayal, set on Raga Yaman followed by Swarnamoy Chakrabarty from Chittagong performing Raga Madhuvanti. Renowned vocalist Anil Kumar Saha beautifully performed a late night raga Jog. The evening came to an end with a solo sitar recital based on Raga Kedar by Ebadul Haque Shaikat.
On the second evening (January 9), Prasanta Kumar Das presented a solo tabla lahora. Singer Mohammad Shoyeb rendered Raga Lalit while noted vocalist Karim Shahabuddin sang a poignant Raga Darbari Kanada. Chhayanaut teacher Asit Dey wrapped up the night's performance with a khayal presentation, set on Raga Jaijaiwanti.
The concluding day's daylong programme featured a number of vocalists and instrumentalists. Tanjina Karim Swaralipi started off the morning session by performing Raga Bhairav. Dr. Mintu Krishna Paul with his student Sadia Sharif Baishakhi performed dhrupad set on Raga Ashavari. Bishwajit Natta accompanied the performance on pakhawaj.
Arju Aktar Baby rendered Raga Ahir Bhairav while Shamim Zahir presented Raga Kirwani on sarod. Sunil Kumar Mondal melodically performed an evening Raga Patdweep. Latifun Julio offered a romantic Raga Madhuvanti, Dr. Fakir Shahidul Islam sang Raga Puria Kalyan and Shekhar Mondal wrapped up the conference with Raga Shudh Kalyan.
Goutam Sarker, Sajit Hossain, Sabuj Ahmed, Bishwajit Natta, Mir Naqibul Islam, Arun Chandra Das and Dipankar Aich accompanied the performances on tabla with Saikat Kanti Paul on nagma and Matiar Rahman on sarangi.
Besides the annual conference, the organisation holds a monthly programme on the last Thursday of every month at Bishwa Sahitya Kendra.
