Bangladesh spinners scalped two important wickets late on the day after Sri Lanka’s left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama’s six-for saw the hosts begin the second innings with a mammoth 242-run lead on the third day of their second and final Test at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy today.

Even amid the coronavirus pandemic with lockdown imposed around the globe, sports enthusiasts are often sneaking out to play the game they love. This boy in Srinagar, India however was a bit innovative as he put on a homemade facemask to play cricket during a government-imposed nationwide lockdown as a preventive measure against the coronavirus. While such innovative measures have not yet been noticed in Bangladesh but a number of cricket lovers were spotted on numerous occasions at different places of the country playing cricket defying government directives. Although the photograph, showing three youths playing a game of cricket in one of the few spots in a field not covered by drying fishing nets at Fishery Ghat in Chattogram, did not get the top award, it did make the cover of British newspaper The Guardian’s story titled: ‘Catches, tea and nets: Wisden–MCC Photograph of the Year’. The first ever Bankers’ Championship Trophy 2020 organised by ACE kicked off on Monday through a colourful opening ceremony at a hotel in Dhaka. Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr Fazle Kabir, also the chief guest at the programme, inaugurated the tournament. A total of 16 banks including the central bank are participating in the tournament. The first match of the championship will be held on February 7 at Mirpur City Club Field and will end on March 14.
