Tigers lose Soumya, Liton inside Powerplay
Zimbabwe quicks bowled with precision and picked up two key wickets -- those of Soumya Sarkar and Liton Das -- against Bangladesh in the Powerplay in the two sides' T20 World Cup Super 12 encounter at the Gabba in Brisbane on Sunday.
After six overs, Bangladesh reached 32 for two after six overs.
Soumya was the first to depart, playing tentatively and edging a delivery that pitched around the middle stump and shaped away from the left-hander.
Liton, who looked to be in good touch, departed in the final over of the Powerplay when he tried to scoop a Blessing Muzarabani delivery and only ended up getting a leading edge to short third man.
Liton had started brilliantly, getting off the mark the very first ball with a boundary through the point off a Blessing Muzarabani delivery. He also struck Richard Ngarava for an eye-pleasing back-foot punch for a boundary in the fourth over.
Najmul Hossain Shanto moved on to 18 off 19 deliveries, but the left-hander, who has been under the scanner for his performances lately, has not looked comfortable out in the middle. Shanto struggled with his timing and was also having problems with his hamstring for a while. He even received treatment on the field but kept on going.
