Tigers to don recyclable jerseys at T20 WC
Bangladesh cricket team players will be wearing recyclable jerseys in the upcoming T20 World Cup in Oman and the UAE.
Aarong, a chain of Bangladeshi department stores specialising in Bengali ethnic wear and handicrafts, is the official distributor and the official jersey will be available at all outlets of Aarong.
The jersey was officially unveiled at a programme at a hotel in the capital on Monday, organised by Aarong and in presence of officials from Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Sports and Sportz Design.
"Aarong is extremely excited to be able to bring the official jersey of the T20 World Cup Bangladesh cricket team to consumers across the country as well as Australia, UK and the US. We are proud to be able to participate in showcasing the strength of our nation on a global platform through our Tigers and wish them all the best in roaring to victory. We ask everyone to join the roar!," Tamara Abed, managing director of Brac Enterprises, said at the programme.
The programme was also attended, among others, by Akram Khan, BCB's cricket operations chairman, and Mehtab Uddin, owner of Sports and Sportz Design.
"The thread for the front part of the jersey is of recyclable jacquard fabric, which is made from recyclable plastic. The back part is made from mesh fabric which is able to regulate temperature well due to air circulation. We took the heat in the Middle East into consideration while developing this jersey. The shoulder is red while the remaining part of the jersey is made green to portray our national flag," Mehtab Uddin told media.
The design of the jersey is inspired by the one the Tigers wore back in 2004-2005.
Bangladesh had already played an unofficial practice match against Oman A last Friday wearing this jersey.
The Tigers reached Abu Dhabi on Sunday from Oman and will play two official practice games on October 12 and 14 against Sri Lanka and Ireland respectively.
Mahmudullah Riyad and his troops will then return to Oman on October 15, before facing Scotland in their first match of the qualifying stage on October 17 at the Al Amerat Cricket Stadium in Muscat.
