‘Remember the name’
'Remember the name'. These words from Ian Bishop from the commentary box are almost as iconic as the moment he described -- West Indies' Carlos Brathwaite hitting England's Ben Stokes for four successive sixes to help the Windies win the final of the T20 World Cup in 2016 in Kolkata to become the only team with two T20 World Cup titles.
Yesterday, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the world witnessed something similar, albeit not at a stage as great as the final of a T20 World Cup.
With Pakistan needing 24 off 12 deliveries, Asif Ali took matters into his own hands and sealed the match in the 19th over, smashing four sixes off the bowling of Afghanistan' Karim Janat and helping Pakistan win with an over to spare in the two sides' Super 12 clash of the T20 World Cup.
Asif's heroics and display of tremendous nerve and skill of power hitting at the death made Stokes say the exact same words that Bishop had said. Only this time, Stokes said it with excitement.
Remember the name @AasifAli2018; Ben Stokes (@benstokes38) October 29, 2021
"Remember the name, Asif Ali," tweeted Stokes.
Asif finished with 25 off just seven balls with four sixes and a single, leaving Janat and all the other Afghan players frustrated.
The five-wicket win gave Pakistan a third win in as many games in Group 2 of the Super 12 stages, almost assuring a semi-final place, needing just one more win from their last two games.
