Lankan mystery spinner uncertain for Bangladesh clash
Sri Lanka suffered a major blow before their first match in the Super 12 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup against Bangladesh at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium tomorrow.
Sri Lanka's mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana is uncertain for their clash against the Tigers after the 21-year-old picked up a side injury during their eight-wicket win against the Netherlands in Sharjah yesterday.
Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka informed that Theekshana, who scalped eight wickets in three games in the qualifying stage, is still uncertain for the game against Tigers tomorrow.
"We are still monitoring his condition. We will talk to the physio today during our training and then make a decision accordingly," said Shanaka in the pre-match press conference today.
Earlier, Sri Lanka batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa maintained that they are not willing to take risk regarding Theekshana.
"The physios have said the decision might be to leave him for the next game. We don't want to risk it by playing him and then him not playing in the rest of the series. For the moment he will be missing the next game as far as I know. It's not 100% decided yet, but most probably, he will miss the first game and then play the rest of the games," Rajapaksa said.
Theekshana, the man in form, scalped two wickets and gave away just three runs in the only over he bowled against the Netherlands. The off-spinner also took a wicket against Bangladesh in their official practice game.
Bangladesh's game against Sri Lanka will begin at 4:00pm (BST) on Sunday.
