Mahmudullah wants to repeat feats of 2018 in the Caribbean
Bangladesh T20I skipper Mahmudullah Riyad wants to repeat history and beat the West Indies in the upcoming T20I series, just like they did back in 2018 during the Tigers' last tour of the Caribbean.
"Bangladesh's target is to win the [T20I] series," Mahmdullah said before leaving for the West Indies with the white-ball contingent of the Tigers earlier today.
"We will try to play good cricket. We have a very good team balance right now. Hope that it will be a good series," added the 36-year-old.
Bangladesh's Test side are already in the Caribbean and will begin the second and series-deciding Test in a few hours in the Gros Islet, hoping to fare better than their seven-wicket defeat in the first game in Antigua.
In 2018 as well, Bangladesh began their tour of the Caribbean poorly with heavy-margin defeats in the two-Test series. But the Tigers bounced back incredibly and went on to win the following ODI and T20I series -- both by margins of 2-1.
The Tigers had lost the first T20I back then before stunning the then reigning T20 World Champions in the second and final T20Is to seal a historic overseas series victory. Mahmudullah is taking inspiration from that series.
"They are a very good side in ODIs and T20Is. We have to play good cricket. Obviously, there will be a challenge as we will be playing in their conditions. But the last time we went there, we played good cricket to win the series. So, we will try to do the same this time as well," Mahmudullah said.
The Tigers' three-match T20I series will begin on July 2 in Dominica. The second T20I will be held the next day at the same venue. The final match of the series will be on July 7 in Guyana before the Tigers wrap up their multi-format tour against the Windies with a three-match ODI series.
