Tamim, Joy dominate opening session on Day 3
Bangladesh openers Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudul Hasan Joy, barring a few odd chances, have completely dominated proceedings in the opening session of the third day of their first Test against Sri Lanka at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram today.
The duo played fluently to bring up a 100-run opening stand for Bangladesh in over five years in Tests as the Tigers reached 157 for no loss at Lunch.
Tamim, who started the day unbeaten on 35, took his score to 89 not out and is fast approaching his 10th Test ton. The left-handed opener has been the most aggressive one in the middle today, resuming proceedings with back-to-back boundaries off Vishwa Fernando.
Tamim is also in pursuit of another landmark, that of becoming the first Bangladeshi batter to reach 5000 runs in Tests. The southpaw is only 63 runs away from achieving the feat and is also ahead in the race to beat Mushfiqur Rahim, who also happens to be just 68 runs away from the feat with 4932 runs in Tests.
Meanwhile, Tamim's opening partner Joy has been a bit more steady in his approach today. Joy moved on to 58 off 134 deliveries but the right-hander could consider himself lucky to still be out there as Embuldeniya dropped a sitter at fine-leg when the batter was on 55.
