Youth Olympic Games: BD hockey team taste first win
The Bangladesh hockey team tasted their first win in the Youth Olympic Games when they handed a 5-2 defeat to Canada in the five-a-side affair in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Wednesday.
Saiful Alam struck twice while Shohanur Rahman Sobuj, Mohammad Hasan and Arshad Hossain netted one goal apiece.
Bangladesh, who lost to India (10-0), Australia (4-3) and Austria (3-0) in their first three matches, faced a stiff challenge from Canada in the first half, which was locked at 1-1. However, Bangladesh came out strong in the second half, adding four more goals to end the encounter 5-2. The boys were scheduled to play their last pool match last night against Kenya yesterday.
In shooting, Arnab Sharar Ladif, paired with Chinese Taipei's Chen Yun-Yun, advanced to the quarterfinals of the 10m air rifle mixed international team discipline as they beat Shamakov Grigorii of Russia and Zaynab Pardabaeva of Uzbekistan by 10-7 points in a pre-quarterfinal match.
Meanwhile the team of Amira Hamid and Changchong Zhang of China were eliminated from the round-of-16 after losing 10-7 to the opposition pair of Enkhmaa Erdenechuluun of Mongolia and Zalan Pzekler of Hungary.
