Women’s hockey team start camp

Bangladesh women’s hockey team have started their preparation for Women’s Junior (U-21) AHF Cup Qualifiers, scheduled to be held in Singapore from September 9 to 15, at Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium yesterday.

Under the supervision of Sports Directorate, some 50 women yesterday turned up for the 16-day second-phase training which will continue till May 29 before a short break for Eid-ul-Fitr.  The first phase of 15 days’ training was held in March.

“We began this training camp for the upcoming AHF Cup U-21 tournament and it is an initiative of Sports Directorate. The third phase training will be held under the supervision of Bangladesh Hockey Federation,” coach Hedayetul Islam Razib said yesterday.

“Over two years, we have been working with the girls, who are aged between 14 and 19 years. We have chosen these girls from talent hunt, Bangladesh Youth Games and women’s hockey tournament,” Razib said, adding the team would play two warm-up matches in Kolkata before the AHF Cup.
