SMOKE COVERS THE SCG
Toxic conditions at a smoke-blanketed Sydney Cricket Ground affected vision and breathing of players in the Sheffield Shield game between New South Wales and Queensland yesterday. Queensland skipper Usman Khawaja said it was ‘hard to breathe’ while his NSW counterpart Peter Nevill agreed the smoke from bushfires ‘significantly altered visibility’. Steve O Keefe slammed the conditions, saying: “For someone like me who smokes 40 a day, it’s now smoking 80 cigarettes a day.”
