Shuvagata’s ton puts Central in charge
Central Zone were eyeing their first win in the Bangladesh Cricket League after skipper Shuvagata Hom struck a hundred to help post a challenging target of 330. In reply, North Zone ended the day on 156 for five, needing another 174 to win with five wickets in hand after the third day at the Sylhet International Stadium yesterday.
North were in all sorts of trouble in their chase and were struggling on 81 for three. Tanbir Hayder and Mushfiqur Rahim added 58 runs for the fourth wicket before the latter departed for 38, dismissed by pacer Shahidul Islam, who ended up picking three wickets. Tanbir remained unbeaten on 54 and will be the only hope for North when they resume batting on the final day.
Earlier, Central resumed the day on 187 for five in their second innings with Shuvagata on 28.
The 33-year-old’s was the final wicket to fall after scoring 122 off 161 balls with the help of 13 fours and two sixes as Central were all out for 325 runs in their second innings.
In the other match of the third round at the Sheikh Kamal International Stadium Academy Ground, East Zone replied well after being forced to follow on by South Zone and were leading by 147 runs in their second innings.
Resuming on 270 for five in their first innings in reply to South’s 482, East were all out after adding just 36 to their overnight score and were asked to follow on.
However, East came back well in their second innings, riding on Pinak Ghosh’s century before he was dismissed for 121 off 139 balls. Afif Hossain was also eyeing a century and ended the day unbeaten on 93 runs as East will resume the final day on 323 for five.
