Shitul, Ashraful in Pakistan league?
Bangladesh Hockey Federation has sent forward names of national hockey players Farhad Ahmed Shitul and Ashraful Islam for participation in a domestic tournament in Pakistan.
It has been learnt that BHF sent the two names after the Pakistan Hockey Federation asked for two players for the Pakistan Hockey Super League -- a proposed franchise-based league, which is expected to start in the middle of January.
If it comes off, this will be the first time that any Bangladeshi hockey player would play in Pakistan's domestic hockey even though the Pakistani players' participation in Bangladesh's domestic hockey has been a common phenomenon for a long time.
It may be mentioned here that BHF twice declined to send the national team to Pakistan for a new tournament named Hockey Series Open, mostly on security grounds. The tournament was held in Lahore from December 17 to 22.
However, in recent times, Bangladesh women's cricket team and emerging cricket team have toured Pakistan while individual cricketers have taken part in Pakistan Super League matches held in Pakistan.
