SE Asians dominate badminton tourney
Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh International Challenge badminton tournament concluded at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium amid dominance of Malaysian and Indonesian shuttlers.
Malaysia's Tek Jhi Shu won the men's singles title, beating Chao Chuang Fam of Vietnam by 21-17, 21-17 points in the final. Vietnam's Thui Lin Enguyen beat Putri Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia by 21-18, 21-19 points to seal the women's singles title.
The Leo Rolly Karnado and Daniel Marthin pair of Indonesia scooped the men's doubles title with a 21-16, 21-11 points win over Thailand's Supak Jamkoh and Wachirait Suthon pair in the final. The Bibiyan Hu and Yap Cheng Won pair of Malaysia won the women's doubles title, beating the Aparna Balan and KP Sruti pair of India 21-14, 21-13.
The Karnado and Indah Chhaya pair of Indonesia won the mixed doubles title, beating Malaysia's Hu Pang Ron and Chiah Ye Si pair by 21-16, 21-15 points in the final.
Hosts Bangladesh won only a bronze medal from this tournament, courtesy of Alina Sultana and Shapla Akter, in women's doubles. Although they lost their semifinal match, as per the by-laws of the tournament, they were awarded bronze medals.
