School kabaddi starts today
Vasavi Dhaka Metropolis School Kabaddi competition starts today with 63 school teams in the boys' section and 52 school teams in the girls' section taking part. A total of 1725 school kabaddi players will be participating in the five-day competition.
During a press conference arranged yesterday at the Police Headquarters, Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation's general secretary Habibur Rahman said, “Kabaddi is not only a physical game. There are a lot of techniques involved with it. That is why a lot of boys and girls are getting interested in the game.”
It may be mentioned here that Bangladesh failed to win any medal in kabaddi events of the Asian games -- both in men's and women's competitions -- recently, ending a 24-year streak of medals in the discipline. The results came as a major blow and a whole restructuring of the game was suggested in its aftermath. This school competition is expected to be the first step in that direction.
