Rakib-Faruk panel cleansweeps BAF elections
The Rakib-Faruk panel obtained a landslide victory in the Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF) elections, which were held at the National Sports Council yesterday.
The Rakib-Faruk panel swept all 28 positions in the elections, where 117 councillors cast their votes. Three voters remained absent.
Advocate Abdur Rakib Montu was elected as the general secretary, having won 96 votes against his nearest competitor Shah Alam, who received 19 votes. Sadat Hossain Sohel, the other candidate at the post, received only two votes.
Farukul Islam, meanwhile, was elected as one of the five vice-presidents during the BAF polls, where the last elections were held in 2013.
“I want to work to improve the state of athletics in the country,” Rakib said in his reaction.
“I will try to work with those who have lost in the elections so that we can take the country’s athletics forward,” added Rakib.
