Kohli to return in Root’s 100th Test
There will be plenty of nervous eyes watching the four-Test series between India and England, with three teams' World Test Championship fates hanging in the balance.
India are "mentally tough" despite the coronavirus pandemic as they prepare to take on England in a Test series starting today at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane said.
Rahane, one of the heroes of India's upset series triumph in Australia last month, also insisted that he was happy to have captain Virat Kohli back in the side.
Most teams have complained about the mental strain of playing bio bubble Tests when they are stuck in hotels and stadiums for months on end since the pandemic erupted a year ago. But Rahane said India are "not mentally tired at all".
England skipper Joe Root goes into his 100th Test on Friday seeking a repeat of how he started his illustrious career -- with a rare series win on Indian soil. Root, 30, will lead England in the four Tests knowing that he needs a win to stand any chance of reaching the inaugural World Test Championship final in June. Root made his debut in 2012 at Nagpur in the fourth match of a series won by England 2-1 under Alastair Cook, their last triumph in India.
