Jorge Messi’s meeting with Bartomeu ends in stalemate
Jorge Messi, Lionel's agent and father, reiterated to FC Barcelona in a meeting that his son would not stay at the Nou Camp while the club have remained firm in refusing to facilitate any kind of transfer, according to reports.
Negotiations are expected to continue so that the conflict can be resolved and the Barcelona icon can leave in a way that is agreeable to both parties. What remained clear is that Messi does not want to play in Barcelona and does not intend to change his decision.
Jorge Messi reportedly remained inflexible when speaking to club president Josep Maria Bartomeu in a meeting that lasted an hour-and-a-half. He again said that Lionel, who no longer considers himself a part of the club, has no intention to stay.
Meanwhile, local media in Catalonia reported that the club would not budge from their current position to retain Messi and that the only option they have offered is to try and extend his contract until 2022.
Jorge, accompanied by his other son Rodrigo, took a 13-hour flight to Catalonia in the morning to discuss Lionel's departure.
