Ismail, Shirin become BD’s fastest
Mohammad Ismail dethroned Hasan Mia as the country’s fastest man by grabbing a gold medal in 100m sprint at the 43rd National Athletics Championships at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram yesterday.
Bangladesh Navy’s Ismail, who lost his crown to Hasan Mia at the Summer Athletics Championships held in August last year, clocked 10:40 seconds (hand-time), 00:20 seconds worse than his national record timing at the 42nd National Athletics Championship in 2019.
Hasan of Bangladesh Army took 10:50 seconds to finish second, ahead of Abdur Rouf of Bangladesh Navy, who clocked in at 10:60 seconds.
Meanwhile, sprinter Shirin Akter continued her dominance as the Bangladesh Navy sprinter clocked 12:10 seconds to finish well ahead of silver medallist Sharifa Khatun of Bangladesh Army, who took 12:30 seconds while her teammate Sonia Akter took 12:60 seconds to win the bronze medal.
At the close of the first day, Bangladesh Navy top the table with six gold, four silver and four bronze medals while Bangladesh Army won three gold, five silver and four bronze medals to stay in second position.
