Archer Sakib ousted
Sakib Molla, a promising archer from Bangladesh, made his exit from the third round of the individual recurve junior men’s event of the World Archery Youth Championships when he lost to Jacquey Clement in tiebreakers in Spain yesterday.
Sakib led the way against Clement till the third set with 5-1 set point lead but the young archer lost his nerves and the next two sets as the Frenchman bounced back to level the set points at 5-5. Then, Sakib lost to Clement in the single-arrow deciding shot.
Although Sakib managed to reach the third round, his more illustrious partners, Tamimul Islam and Hakim Ahmed Rubel, were eliminated from the second round as they lost to Chen Zhao-Sheng of Chinese Taipei and Nescior Andrzej of Poland respectively.
However, Bangladesh moved into the second round of the junior recurve team event by beating Austria 6-2 to set up a pre-quarter final clash against India, which was scheduled to take place late night.
