Abahani, Mohammedan SC want dissolution of hockey committee
Seven top-flight clubs including Abahani and Mohammedan SC today urged the state minister for youth and sports Jahid Ahsan Russel to dissolve the existing executive committee of Bangladesh Hockey Federation citing its inactiveness to run the domestic competitions.
Abahani, Mohammedan SC, Ajax SC, Wari Club. Azad SC, Bangladesh SC and Victoria SC together handed a letter, asking the National Sports Council (NSC) to build a new committee.
"The existing committee has been at helm for a two-and-a-half year but they could not hold the premier league in this time apart from national, age-group and club-based tournaments leaving one of the country's popular games in a stagnant state," the letter read.
"We get no confidence to take part either in league or tournaments sans the general secretary. So we request you to form a new committee for the greater interest of hockey, hockey players, organisers and the clubs," the letter added.
Recently Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina allocated Tk 1 crore for hockey federation to hold the premier hockey league.
Meanwhile the premier division hockey league was last held in 2018 and the hockey federation has seemingly been stagnant state since elected general secretary KM Momimul Haque Sayeed fled abroad in September 2019 following allegations of running a casino in 'Motijheel Club Para'.
