Narrow defeat in opener
Bangladesh lost the first of a five-match friendly hockey series against South Korea by 3-2 goals in Jincheon City yesterday.
Bangladesh, placed 31st in world rankings, kept the hosts at bay in the first quarter but conceded two goals in the second. Forward Milon Hossain made it 2-1 in the third quarter, but the men in red and green conceded another a few minutes later.
Veteran forward and skipper Rassel Mahmud Jimmy reduced the arrears yet again, but Gobinathan Krishna-murthi's charges failed to find the equalising goal.
“The team played well in this match. However, there is scope for more improvement and we will have to work more. I hope we will do better in the next matches,” said the Malaysian.
Bangladesh will play their second match today as they build up for next month's Asian Games in Indonesia.
