Gobinathan in charge again
Malaysian coach Iman Gobinathan Krishnamurthy has been appointed head coach of Bangladesh hockey team for next month's Asian Champions Trophy, scheduled to be held from in Dhaka from December 14 to 22.
Gobinathan, now working at BKSP, had previously worked with the national team during the World Hockey League (stage-2) in 2015 and the Jakarta Asian Games in 2018.
"As Mahbub Harun expressed his inability to coach the national team due to sickness, we appointed Gobinathan with the consent of all senior BHF officials. We also didn't have much time or the money to rope in a foreign coach," BHF's acting general secretary Mohammad Yousuf said yesterday.
Yousuf also informed that the team will start preparation at BKSP soon after the completion of the ongoing Premier Hockey League as the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium will undergo renovation work ahead of the six-nation tournament, which will feature Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Gobinathan has watched some big matches of the league.
Sajed A Adel, chief selector of BHF, informed that they would place a 28-member preliminary squad today, from which an 18-member final squad will be announced after a week's training.
