Bonna outshines Sohel, Ashiq in Shanghai

Despite having shown potential to achieve the preliminary target of qualifying for the quarterfinals in men's compound team event of Archery World Cup Stage-2, the male archers disappointed as they were ousted from the first round of the elimination round in Men's Individual Compound event in Shanghai, China, on Thursday.

Bonna Akter, however, outshone her male compatriots. The 21-year-old managed to beat Australian Katrina Robinson and Andrea Munoz in the first and second round, respectively, before moving into the pre-quarterfinal match where she suffered a 144-141 defeat to Turkish Ipek Tomruk.

The compound mixed team will play the pre-quarterfinal match against India after getting the bye in the first round.

Earlier, in the men's individual event, Mohammad Ashiquzzaman suffered a narrow 145-144 defeat to Indian Rajat Chauhan while Sohel Rana lost 146-141 to Jaatma Robin of Estonia.
