Bangladesh's former hockey coach Naveed Alam passes away
Naveed Alam, a noted Pakistani hockey player and former coach of the Bangladesh national team, passed away in Lahore on Tuesday after a battle with cancer.
Alam's son posted a message on social media this afternoon, praying for salvation of the departed soul.
Alam, who was recently diagnosed with blood cancer, underwent chemotherapy in Lahore yesterday, after which his condition deteriorated. He was immediately moved to a hospital where he passed away, according to Pakistani newspaper The Dawn.
The 47-year-old Olympian and Hockey World Cup winner was a familiar name in Bangladesh hockey as he played in the Dhaka Premier League for Usha Krira Chakra in 1990s.
Later he coached Bangladesh team in 2013 and 2014.
