Acme Chattogram move into HCT final
Acme Chattogram moved into the final of the Hockey Champions Trophy with a hard fought 2-1 win over Rupayan City Cumilla in Qualifier 1 at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium on Monday.
Chattogram, the table toppers following 10 round of matches, bounced back after conceding in an intense game under lights to become the first team to book a spot in the final.
Chattogram, who were held to a 4-4 draw before registering a 3-2 win over Rupayan in the league stage encounters, faced a tough challenge from Cumilla, who took the lead in the 23th minute.
Spanish Joaquin Menini put a forward pass to midfielder Sarwar Hossain, who moved from the right side to hit a fierce square pass for Pushkor Khisha Mimo, and the national forward drove in front of the far goalpost to send the ball home.
It took Chattogram 26 minutes to level the margin. Hasan Jubiar Niloy saw his fierce hit parried by goalkeeper Zahid Hossain but Indian Devindar Walmiki did not make a mistake to hit the rebounder home in the 49th minute before striking the match-winning goal from a penalty corner in the 53rd minute.
Rupayan City Cumilla will now play Qualifier 2 against the eliminator winners between Monarch Padma and Metro Express Barishal.
