Jahir falls in semis
Mohammad Jahir Rayhan's dream of qualifying for the eight-man final of the 400m run in the IAAF U-18 Championships was shattered yesterday after the promising Bangladeshi athlete finished 14th among 23 athletes in the semifinals in Nairobi yesterday.
Rayhan, who produced his personal best [48.00 seconds] in the Heats on Wednesday, took 00.22 seconds longer in the final of the 400m race, clocking 48.22 seconds.
The 11th-grade student of BKSP timed 00.76 seconds more than Daniel Williams of Guyana, who secured the eighth and last spot in the final with a time of 47.46 seconds.
Jahir was the second Bangladeshi athlete to qualify for a global athletic championship organized by the IAAF after sprinter Abdullah Hel Kafi.
