The start of the 2015-2016 football season has been deferred to March 30 after the transfer window for the Bangladesh Premier League was extended till March 20, according to a decision of the Professional Football League Committee (PFLC) of the Bangladesh Football Federation yesterday.
According to an earlier decision, the transfer window was supposed to close on February 28 and the season was supposed to begin on March 7 through the Independence Cup. However, yesterday's PFLC meeting decided to hold the Independence Cup from March 30 while deferring the closure of the transfer window by 21 days.
The meeting, presided over by the committee's chairman Abdus Salam Murshedy and attended by its members and different club officials, informed media that the deferral has been made in request of Arambagh Krira Shangha and Uttar Baridhara Club -- the two clubs which have been promoted to the top-tier professional football league.
The meeting also decided to hold the 12-team Independence Club at two venues -- the Bangabandhu National Stadium and the Birshreshtha Shaheed Mostafa Kamal Stadium. However, the PFLC could not give any definitive outline as to the starting date of the Bangladesh Premier League.
