Who voted for who in FIFA Best Awards?
Cristiano Ronaldo stayed away from the star-studded ceremony in Milan's iconic La Scala Opera House on Monday as rival Lionel Messi won the FIFA Men's Player of the Year award.
The Juventus forward had also been shortlisted for the award, but did not attend the ceremony as he was named in FIFA's World 11 best team along with Messi.
The awards are based on performances from 16 July 2018 to 19 July 2019 and were voted for by fans, national coaches of FIFA Member Associations, their team captains as well as a select group of football journalists from those countries.
But who did Messi, Van Dijk and Ronaldo vote for ahead of Monday night’s presentation?
The Argentine had once again voted for Ronaldo as one of the best but the Portuguese reciprocate.
Messi picked Sadio Mane as his number 1 followed by Ronaldo and Barca teammate Frenkie de Jong.
Livepool’s Van Dijk voted for Messi, Mohamed Salah and Mane. Ronaldo chose Juventus teammate Matthijs de Ligt as his number 1 followed by De Jong and Kylian Mbappe.
Ronaldo stayed back home and posted a picture on his Instagram during the awards.
"Patience and persistence are two characteristics that differentiate the professional from the amateur. Everything that is today great started small. One can't do everything, but do everything you can to make your dreams come true. Try to keep in mind that after the night always comes the dawn."
