Valuable point for Team BJMC
Bottom-placed Team BJMC secured a valuable point on home ground with a 1-1 draw against visiting Chittagong Abahani in their Bangladesh Premier League encounter at the Shaheed Bulu Stadium in Noakhali yesterday.
With their fifth draw in 15 matches, relegation-threatened Team BJMC raised their tally to five points, three less than Brothers Union while Chittagong Abahani remained at sixth position of the 13-team table with 18 points following their fifth draw in 15 matches.
Team BJMC, who had played out a goalless draw against the same opposition in their away match in Dhaka, dominated proceedings and went close to tasting their first win before surrendering the lead six minutes from time.
Team BJMC came close to taking the lead in the fourth minute but Chittagong Abahani goalkeeper Mohammad Nehal denied Samson Illiasu. Nehal once again rescued the port city side after foiling a good effort from Eleta Kingsley in the 15th minute while Kingsley floated over the crosspiece in the 39th minute.
Iliasu finally broke the deadlock in the 45th minute with a powerful shot from outside the box after Mohammad Yusuf cut the ball back to the Nigerian.
After resumption, Team BJMC kept pressing to double the lead but they could not expose the Chittagong Ahahani defence like the first half while the visitors threatened to equalise, with Mamadou Bah and Nkwocha Chingosu trying their luck from outside the box a few times.
The port city side finally levelled the margin six minutes from time with Bah nodding home a back-header from Chigosu on a free-kick from Mufta Lawal.
