Sports journalists protest harassment of Rozina

Sports journalists, like journalists of other sectors, today protested against the harassment of Prothom Alo's senior reporter Rozina Islam.

Rozina while on duty at the secretariat on Monday was harassed for five hours before being taken to the Shahbag Police Station at night. She was taken to jail today after a Dhaka court rejected a remand plea of police this morning.

Sports journalists, who went to cover national football team's practice session at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the morning, staged a sit-in protest.

Reporters, photographers and cameramen from various media houses including print, electronic and online media sat at the athletic turf for five minutes with their equipment lying in front of them.

The journalists demanded that Rozina be released immediately and the perpetrators be brought to justice.

Later, reporters and photojournalists covering cricketers' practice at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur demanded justice for the fellow journalist, holding a banner with a statement 'Journalism in not a crime.'
