NoFeL pile more misery on Brothers
Ismail Bangoura and Mohammad Forhad scored in the first half as newcomers NoFeL SC registered their first win of the campaign with a 2-0 victory over a struggling Brothers Union at the Shaheed Bulu Stadium in Noakhali yesterday.
Bangoura opened the scoring with a fantastic header in the fourth minute of the game to send the home supporters into frenzy. The Guinean centre-forward played a nice little one-two with Ashraful Islam before finding the far corner of the net with a powerful diagonal header on a cross from the latter.
The hosts played nice build-up football and found the back of the net for the second time 25 minutes later, this time Forhad slammed home a rebound after Bangoura's shot was parried into the middle of the box by Brothers Union goalkeeper Sujon Chowdhury.
This is a good run of form for the newcomers, who have now collected five points from their last four matches after having lost their first three matches of the campaign. With five points NoFeL SC are now in ninth position while Brothers Union, following their fifth consecutive defeat in seven matches, remained bottom of the table with three points.
Other big teams also failed to play their natural game at the Shaheed Bulu Stadium, blaming the poor pitch for the performance. However, Brothers Union manager Amer Khan blamed his team for the defeat.
“I would not blame the pitch for the defeat. The opposition team are also playing on this pitch and performing. If we are a professional team, we will have to accept this and play,” said Amer while talking to The Daily Star after the match.
“We have conceded early in this match like the previous matches, and that is what put us on the backfoot. Our defence is a bit week due to the absence of some regular players and the departure of an Iraqi defender has made things pretty difficult for us,” Amer added.
Meanwhile, Saif Sporting Club and Chittagong Abahani played out a goalless draw at the Rafique Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh in the other match of the day.
The draw took fourth-placed Saif Sporting Club to 10 points from seven matches while Chittagong Abahani were in seventh position with 10 points from right matches.
