Manik sacked hours before crucial BPL match
Sheikh Jamal DC terminated head coach Shafiqul Islam Manik hours before their crucial tie in the Bangladesh Premier League against leaders Bashundhara Kings today.
"I have been verbally asked to not accompany with the team in today's Bangladesh Premier League," Manik told The Daily Star.
"They will let me know in written form tomorrow," he added.
The veteran coach, who was appointed in the middle of 2018-19 season after the termination of Nigerian coach Joshep Afusi, led Sheikh Jamal in their ascension to the second position of a 13-team table of the ongoing season with 39 points from 18 matches, some 13 points less than Kings who however played a match more than Sheikh Jamal.
Kings will retain the title of the professional football league, with four matches in hand, if they beat Sheikh Jamal at Bangabandhu National Stadium today.
Although Manik had somewhat anticipated that the club management might sack him following a draw against Abahani in the previous match.
