Kings back on top
Bashundhara Kings regained their lead in the BPL with a 2-0 win over Brothers Union after holders Abahani temporarily jumped to the top of the 13-team table with their win over Mohammedan at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.
Away at Sylhet District Stadium, Sheikh Russel KC posted a 2-0 win over the NoFel SC to remain in third position with 20 points from eight games. Bashundhara and Abahani are in first and second position with 22 and 21 points respectively. Abahani, however, have played a match more than Sheikh Russel and Bashundhara.
It was day that went from bad to worse for Brothers Union as the side hit a new low in their professional football league history by suffering a seventh straight defeat, outdoing their previous lowest of six straight defeats in the 2012-13 season.
Bashundhara initially faced some difficulty against Brothers Union before taking the lead in the 34th minute as Baktyiar Duishobekov struck during a goal-mouth melee following a corner kick.
With a minute to go, striker Daniel Colindres fired home from close range after Marcos Vinicius whipped in a cross from the right flank.
