I can’t play for you, says Salahuddin
The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) president Kazi Salahuddin urged the players to give their all during next month's assignments after watching the practice session of the national football team at the Bashundhara Kings Arena in Dhaka yesterday.
Bangladesh national football team are scheduled to leave during early hours of Friday for Indonesia to play an international friendly match against the hosts on June 01 before taking part in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers involving Malaysia, Bahrain and Turkmenistan.
Head coach Javier Cabrera is supposed to announce a final 23-member squad today at an official press briefing as a few players, like Hemanta Vincent Biswas and Saad Uddin, have already been ruled out of the preliminary squad while the players of Bashundhara Kings returned home yesterday to make themselves available for the final selection.
"I'll request the players to give hundred per cent on the ground, and that is all they can do," said Salahuddin yesterday as he went on to restate the onus on the players to perform.
"If a player gives a hundred per cent, it doesn't matter if the team wins or not. The thing is, whether the players are committed to do so.
"The message to the players is very simple: I can give the players playing ground, coaches, accommodation and tournaments, but I can't play for you," said the BFF boss, who also praised Bashundhara Kings for building an impressive stadium.
"If you want to keep Bangladesh football alive, then you [the players] must prove your worth. It is irrelevant whether I'm in the chair but the football has to be played by the players and coach."
